Francesco Arena begins with social and political episodes that have characterized the Italian news for the last decades. The fact, which are too often concealed or hidden, are reinterpreted through a sculptural approach using synthetic forms.

Many personal shows have been dedicated to Arena: Trittico 57, Project Room, Museion, Bolzano; Orizzonte con riduzione di Mare, Monitor, Rome (2012); Com'è piccola Milano, Peep Hole, Milan (2011); Art Statement, Art Basel, with Galleria Monitor, Rome (2010); Cratere, De Vleeshal, Middelburg, Holland (2010); 3,24 mq, Nomas Foundation, Rome (2008).

In 2009 Francesco Arena was awared the Fondazione Ermanno Casoli Prize, Fabriano and the LUM Prize for Contemporary Art, I Edition LUM, Libera Università Mediterranea, Bari with a residency at Villa Arson, Nizza.

In 2011 the artist was selected among the finalist for the Furla Prize, Palazzo Pepoli, Bologna.

As winner of the New York Prize, he carried out a residency in the city for a period of four months (December 2012 – March 2013).
